Who would not be the world’s coolest cat
driving slow along a tree lined street 
in Toronto or Paris or even in Minneapolis
to the Time Out sound of Dave Brubeck
and his pals; Paul Desmond on alto,
Eugene Wright with his stand up bass,
Joe Morello with his drums
all riding it out in the back seat.

It’s time to Take Five.
Put on some shades. You’ll need them
even if the weather isn’t sunny..
Hang an elbow out the window.
Turn the wipers on to 5/4 time.
And that bird in the park that sings
as you cruise by, man-oh-man
that is one Strange Meadow Lark.
